New Directions for Veterans

Los Angeles, California

New Directions for Veterans logo

A Los Angeles nonprofit that has housed and rehabilitated veterans since 1992, and the place where the film's Stan McDonald met Dr. Lorin Lindner.

Mission: Empower men and women who served in the military, and their families, to lead productive and fulfilling lives.

New Directions for Veterans started in 1992, when two formerly homeless Vietnam veterans and a local advocate opened a five-bedroom house in Los Angeles for eight homeless veterans. It has grown into one of LA's most established veterans' services organizations, with transitional housing, thirteen permanent supportive housing facilities across Los Angeles and Orange County, substance abuse treatment, mental health counseling, job placement, and legal and financial help.

The organization is part of our film's own story. It is the rehab program where Navy veteran Stan McDonald met Dr. Lorin Lindner, who later asked him to help build the wolfdog sanctuary.

Why OGSP Recommends It

It is part of the film's own story. Stan McDonald met Dr. Lindner here, and her work with veterans began in programs like this one.
