Privacy Policy

Effective date: July 24, 2026

One Good Story Project (“OGSP,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) respects your privacy. This policy explains what information we collect when you visit our website, how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices you have. If anything here is unclear, please reach out through our contact page.

Who we are

One Good Story Project is a story-first documentary platform (original films supported by a curated library of books, documentaries, podcasts, organizations, and changemakers). This policy covers our website and the forms and sign-ups on it.

Information we collect

Information you give us directly:

  • Newsletter sign-ups. When you sign up for our newsletter, we collect your email address. Sign-ups are handled by our email provider, Flodesk.
  • Contact form. When you use our contact form, we collect your name, email address, your message, and whether you opted in to our newsletter.
  • Story suggestions. When you suggest or share a story, we collect the information you choose to enter in that form.

Information collected automatically:

  • IP address (spam prevention). When you submit a form, we briefly use your IP address to prevent spam and abuse (for example, limiting how many times a form can be submitted from one address in an hour). We do not use it to build a profile of you.
  • Server logs. Like most websites, our web host keeps standard technical logs (such as IP address, browser type, and pages requested) for security and reliability.
  • Cookies. See “Cookies and tracking” below.

How we use your information

We use the information above to:

  • send you our newsletter, if you asked to receive it;
  • respond to your messages and story suggestions;
  • keep the website secure and working properly;
  • understand, in aggregate, how the site is used, so we can improve it.

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising.

Who we share it with

We share information only with the service providers that help us run the site, and only as needed for them to do that work:

  • Flodesk, our email provider, which stores newsletter subscriber emails and sends our newsletter.
  • Our web host and platform, which stores the site and its data.
  • Amazon. Some book links on our site are affiliate links. If you click one and make a purchase, Amazon may set its own cookies; as an Amazon Associate, OGSP may earn from qualifying purchases. See “Affiliate links” below.
  • YouTube. We embed videos using YouTube’s privacy-enhanced (“no-cookie”) mode, which does not set tracking cookies unless you press play. When you play a video, YouTube’s own privacy policy applies.

We may also disclose information if required by law, or to protect the rights, safety, or property of OGSP or others.

Cookies and tracking

Our site uses a small number of cookies needed for it to function. We do not currently use third-party advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.

Embedded YouTube videos use YouTube’s no-cookie mode, so they do not set YouTube cookies until you choose to play a video.

Affiliate links

Some links to books on our site are Amazon affiliate links. As an Amazon Associate, OGSP may earn a small commission from qualifying purchases, at no extra cost to you. Whether a resource is an affiliate link never affects whether we recommend it.

How long we keep information

We keep newsletter emails until you unsubscribe. We keep contact messages and story suggestions for as long as needed to respond and to keep a record of what’s been submitted. You can ask us to delete your information (see “Your privacy rights” below).

Your privacy rights (California)

If you are a California resident, the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA/CPRA) gives you the right to:

  • Know what personal information we collect about you and how we use it;
  • Access a copy of the personal information we hold about you;
  • Delete personal information we hold about you, subject to certain exceptions;
  • Correct inaccurate personal information;
  • Opt out of the “sale” or “sharing” of your personal information, though note we do not sell your personal information or share it for cross-context behavioral advertising; and
  • Not be discriminated against for exercising these rights.

To make any of these requests, contact us through our contact page. We will verify your request (for example, by confirming the email address associated with it) before acting on it. You may also authorize someone to make a request on your behalf.

Children’s privacy

Our site is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us information, please contact us and we will delete it.

Links to other sites

Our site links to films, books, organizations, and other resources on websites we don’t control. This policy does not cover those sites; please review their own privacy policies.

Security

We take reasonable measures to protect the information we collect. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, however, so we can’t guarantee absolute security.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we’ll change the “Effective date” at the top, and significant changes will be reflected on this page.
